In a recent radio interview, The Shack author, Paul Young, told the interviewer he did not hold to the traditional view of the atonement in that he does not believe Jesus Christ bore the punishment (i.e., penalty) for man's sins when He died on the Cross (transcript).
He also stated, with regard to this topic: "I don't know if you're aware, but that's a huge debate that's going on in theology right now within the evangelical community." …
This "huge debate" states that a loving Father would never send His Son to a violent death on behalf of the sins of others. And while they do not deny that Jesus did physically die on a Cross, they insist that His death was not to be a substitutionary act wherein He was punished for our sins.

This is so disturbing to me it breaks my heart. When we deny Jesus as our spotless, sinless lamb who was our sacrifice shedding His blood for our sins, then we have no hope.
Jesus and only Jesus is the one who connects us with God.
He is the spotless lamb who is the permanent, perfect, final sacrifice for all sin, for all men, for all time.
Don’t just celebrate Easter as another holiday with bunnies, colored eggs and cooked ham.
Remember what our Savior has done for us in being the atonement for our sins.
Remember that the grave did not hold Him, but He arose on that Resurrection morning and He is alive today!
This is why we celebrate Easter!
It is the hope of our salvation.
Without it, we are no different than any other religion!
I Peter 3:18 “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit”.

ReplyDeleteI've heard alot about this book but never read it. Someone told me when they would read the book,they had to go back to reread the pages they had just read to makes sense of it.
When my daughter was born,we decided not to have the Easter bunny part of Easter. We didn't do Santa or the tooth fairy,either. To me,it's a lie and I always wanted her to trust my words.I got ridiculed by many.

Wow...I would have never thought he would believe that after reading his book. How sad is that and to know that he either planted seeds of doubt in some listeners ears or "confirmed" what some already thought was "true"...only to have bought into the lie of the enemy even further.

I havn't read the book. If you read the bible though, if Jesus really died around the time of the passover(not exactly easter)he could not have been born in december. They are both ancient festivals with nothing to do with Yahweh. Or Jesus. I think Tammy that you are very couragious to make that stand. That doesn't mean that I don't like Jesus. He was a cool guy. Saint Nicolas was real & a cool guy too but celebrating a festival in his honour is hardly appropriate for a christian as Jesus said not to call anyone on earth father and the statues involved make it worship.
ReplyDeleteIf you are going to carry the name of Jesus around, you have to be doing what he would or you insult him and his very reason for dying. I can't see him participating in these festivals when they go against the principles of the Father he came to represent. A father who said “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above (ie. stars), or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;you shall not bow down to them nor serve them." Think about how much time you put into christmas. that is serving. If our friends need christmas presents from us to know that we care and Jesus needs a flashy song and dance to know that ppl love him then something is wrong. We should be showing love every day. Go say hello to your neighbours and find out their names. Maybe talk to that homeless guy down the road while you're at it. I think that's what Jesus would do.

I pray that you come to realize that Jesus was more than "a cool guy". He is the Son of God and has been with God since the beginning. He died suffering a horrible death so that you and I and any one who believes can have eternal life in Heaven.
"Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Phil. 2:9-11)
