Lord, Teach Us To Pray

I’ve been troubled lately with wondering if I really know the most effective way to pray. I am being very honest. Thankfully, I can say that I have a long-term relationship with Jesus and for many years He has blessed me and answered so many prayers for me!

But, my heart is searching to know why some prayers seem to go unanswered. I have started a word search in the Bible of the words “pray, prayer, prayed and praying”.
I believe the Holy Spirit is prompting me to do this search.

I welcome any comment or thought that you would like to share on the subject of prayer.

We have access to so many books written on the subject of prayer and most of them are very good and helpful.

The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray and from that we are given:
“The Lord’s Prayer”
recorded in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4.

“Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and
The power and the glory forever.
Amen.”

Jesus taught us to pray to God as “Our Father”.
Perhaps, we need reminding that Jesus also told us to come to Him as a child with simple child-like faith.

Blessings,
Carolyn

  1. My Sunday School class has been studying this very thing...it has convicted me of a passive prayer life and inspired me to do better. I like the Amplified Bible's version of James 5:16 "The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]"I like your reminder of the "child-like" faith...and also the sweet picture you chose to illustrate it.

  2. Hello Carolyn, I just popped over from Hallelujah Anyhow and enjoyed reading your post. A grandmother myself to 7, soon 8, and mom to two wonderful daughters-it has been a privilege to see them walk as godly women. However I've been learning to pray for many years as my hubby is not in the kingdom yet-been praying for 30 yrs. now and waiting for His timing so I too am on this journey.
Blessings to you for sharing and may the Lord through His Spirit teach us a deeper prayer.
